Penn Fisher is the world\'s most popular spinning reel, and with the latest release of Spin Fisher 5 Penn, it will continue to appeal to anglers.
Using these scrolls with almost no problems, many people enjoy great fishing for years.
But, like any reel, now is the time to clean and overhaul to remove the oil and grease set in brine and other elements, as well as impurities and corrosion.
This picture description covers the first version of the scroll released on 1977.
79. adoption (Graphite)reel.
The 550 is a mid-range reel that is popular with freshwater and saltwater anglers due to its diverse use.
It is now considered antique by many collectors, and its popularity is still high.
But if you \'ve never worked with them, it can be tricky to rebuild these.
First, remove the reel and bail assembly completely and place the metal part of the reel in mineral alcohol using a metal container.
Be careful to separate plastic, rubber and/or fiber parts from the rest of the reel.
Soak metal parts in mineral spirits to remove old lubricants, dirt and impurities from the parts.
You can clean non with detergent and toothbrush
Metal parts.
After all the parts are cleaned, dry the parts with old cloth or paper towels so that the reels can be assembled.
This section covers the rotor components of earlier models and with Jacks
Plate, cover plate, spring.
With the later model, the spring and cover plate were omitted, and the rotor cup of the Jack was also cut offplate was used.
With the progress of rotating Fisher, in order to save costs, Penn omitted the jack plate together.
Check your rotor cup and it\'s easy to see which configurations you have.
However, all Penn rotor assemblies are similar.
Assemble the rotor cup first.
This is probably the most serious part of the recovery of 550 and 5500SS.
Using the picture on the right, place a small amount of grease on the back of the Jack
As shown in the figure, install it on the side of the rotor cup.
Pour the rotor cup over and install a small Jack spring.
Place a small amount of grease at one end of the spring (figure 2)
It can be placed at the bottom of the Jack-plate (See Figure3)
Grease will remain in place so that cover plates can be installed (
Figure 5 shows the completed Jack and spring assembly).
Any schematic I can find does not describe this part, but it covers the spring and Jack plates from the lower side of the rotor assembly.
It is connected to a small Philips head screw.
Insert the bail back spring into one side of the rotor cup with a 90 degree bend at one end, push into the small hole in the cut, towards the top of the jack plate.
Don\'t worry about putting the spring wrong, it will only be done in one way.
Next, put another 90-degree bend of the spring into the bail arm (34 about schematic diagram)
And install it on the side of the rotor cup, the cam is located on the back of the bail arm, inserted into the groove at the top of the bail arm mounting bracket.
You may need to turn the bail arm until it aligns the hole where the bail screw is installed.
Insert the Bail arm screw and bushing and turn several turns.
Don\'t tighten all the way.
Add some grease to the Spring area with your finger and replace the bail spring cover.
Now you should be ready to attach the bail arm and insert the bail Bolt screw and lock washer (36 & 36A)
Through the back of the bail group.
The roller washing machine, line roller and roll sleeve are then placed on the ring-taking screw opposite the ring-taking arm.
Screw it into the bail line and hold it tight.
The other side of the bail line can now be connected to the rotor cup and the rotor assembly has been completed.
When the rotor Cup is finished, we can start on the reel assembly.
First of all, pack the small gear bearing and place a considerable amount (approx. one tablespoon)
Reel grease in the palm of your hand, then pass the edge of the gear shaft bearing through the grease and rotate the bearing after each pass.
In order to continue to use, you need to drag the grease back to the center of the palm with the bearing.
Turn the bearing and repeat until the bearing is well lubricated.
Do not use oil, the bearing will wear out and eventually cause the gear shaft to tilt and both the pinion and the main drive gear will be damaged.
Now immerse the pinion in the grease and get a good coating on it.
Slide the packaged bearing over the shaft and push it down to the gear.
The shaft and bearing can now be inserted into the top of the reel chassis, pushing the bearing down to ensure that it is well installed in the pinion shaft shell;
The gear should be visible in the gear cavity.
Find the bearing gasket and slide it through the shaft until the upper bearing surface.
This can also be installed after the holder is in place.
Slide down until the position on the center ring of the bearing is good.
Mounting bearing cover (21)
Insert three fixing screws on the shaft and bearing.
This needs to be tight to prevent the reel from sliding or to allow the rotor cup to move during use. The Anti-
It is now possible to slide the reverse eccentric in place.
Fisrt supplies power to the 90-degree elbow of the eccedntric Spring (Figure F)
Enter the underside of the eccentric, keep the spring to keep the bushing slide down the safety device, relative to the spring and the underside of the eccentric (Figure G).
The eccentricity can now be inserted into the eccentric shaft opening through the reel body cavity and the lower eccentric lining and bottom of the reel body (see Figure H).
When holding the shaft from the top with your finger, align the semi-circular opening of anit
Reverse lever, slide it over the eccentric end.
Don\'t force it: when you screw in the eccentric screw, it pulls the lever tightly on the eccentric liner.
Next slide
Anti-dog fingers
Reverse, then slide down the shaft in a counter-clockwise direction with the reverse, the dog\'s finger should be in the direction of his departure, riding on the topf with the dog\'s tail
Reverse eccentric. (see Figure )
The rotor assembly can now be attached to the reel body;
Slide the rotor over the gear shaft and place the rotor lock washer on the gear shaft and push it down until it enters the groove.
Screw the rotor cup fixing nut to the end of the gear shaft, while holding the rotor with the hand, tighten the nut firmly to the lock washer using the appropriate wrench, the rotor should rotate freely without shaking.
After the upper assembly of the reel body is completed, it is time to work in the internal part of the reel body cavity.
Place the main drive gear bearing in the same position as the primary drive gear shaft bearing before packing.
On the c5ss and the gearss, push the right hand bearing into the hub from the outside of the main gear bearing housing and have the corresponding cover.
The bearings of 5500 and 6500 are installed from the inside of the reel into the housing and the corresponding cover.
Put some grease in the back
Side wind gear (
Relative to the CAM side)
And push it to the hub on the right side of the body cavity (Figure ).
Next, lubricate the channel on the lower side of the side wind block and insert it into the bottom of the reel cavity, where the Grove rests on the back of the cavity (Figure ).
Now, the spindle can be inserted from the top of the rotor Cup through the pinion shaft and down the bushing cover through the side wind shaft bushing.
The grease we dip the pinion into should provide sufficient lubrication for the shaft.
The cut in the lower part of the shaft should be flush with the surface of the side wind block, so that the side wind block plate will be flush with the shaft and block plate.
The block plate holder side wind screws can be put in place and tightened to prevent later exit.
The main gear can now be installed, so that the right end of the side wind gear part can rest on the side wind gear and inside the right hand spindle bearing.
Turn the rotor by hand to ensure the gear is aligned and working smoothly. Now the left-
The hand shell cover and spindle bearing can be installed on the left side of the main gear and fixed with three housing screws. Thread on the (open)
Bearing cover on the left side of the reel.
Depending on the production date of the reel, the handle assembly can be a hex handle passing through the main gear, with a fixing screw on the right side that holds the handle in place.
Others may be threaded in place until fixed with the reel body.
Right hand (closed)
The bearing cover can now be installed, and the reel is overhauled and rebuilt.
Replace the wire shaft and drag nut and get ready for fishing now. Good Luck!
